Japanese design firm Nendo created 'The Minimlet' -- a toilet that can function in disaster zones, offering individuals a means of discreet and dignified relief.
Nendo was inspired to re-design the portable toilet after research suggested that in addition infrastructure disruptions and lack of food distribution, individuals in disaster zones have limited access to working bathrooms. In attempt to offer a solution to this problem, Nendo's design features a convenient kit which can be assembled using items on-hand. The kit includes an aluminum pole, a protective umbrella, a C-shaped seat which can be supported with soda cans or water bottles and a large cloth which serves as a poncho, offering the wearer the coverage necessary to discreetly dispose of personal waste.
