For all the dust being stirred up about efforts to get people to Mars, little thought has been devoted to the actual day-to-day experience on living on the Red Planet, but The Galactic Everyday is a project that recognizes the more banal aspects of interplanetary colonization. Created by Central Saint Martins graduate Christine Lew, The Galactic Everyday includes tools and equipment for conducting a variety of common daily tasks on Mars.
Lew's current concepts include things like a system for bathing, a vacuum-suctioned dressing gown, and a temperature-regulated duvet. The bathing system is one of the most interesting; during the months-long trip to Mars, people will be in a zero-gravity environment. This means that water won't sit in a bath, making it impossible to bathe normally. To solve this problem, Lew created a suit that fills with water via tubes, giving the experience of a bath without risking any water escaping.
