The 606 is a new public park and trail system forged out of a converted railway line in Chicago. Named after the city's ZIP code prefix, the trail is built on the former route of the Bloomingdale Line railway track. It is built around an elevated recreation and culture trail that stretches a length of 4.3 km.
What distinguishes the 606 from New York's High Line, the Miami Underline and the Sydney Goods Line is the manner in which it is integrated with other popular community destinations. For instance, in addition to connecting four of the city's neighborhoods, the trail will also link together six neighbourhood parks.
The 606 is a great example of how cities can use their relics to refresh the urban environment.
