The Latest Tesla Software Gives Cars an Autopilot Self-Driving Ability

This piece of Tesla software will allow drivers to use their vehicles through a semi-autonomous function. Version 7.0 of the Tesla software was recently tested in the busy streets of Manhattan, New York.

This futuristic piece of software is compatible with the brand's Model S vehicles from the year 2014 and onward. The system works through the use of "six long-range ultrasonic sensors each in the front and rear bumper, a windshield-mounted forward-facing camera, a front-bumper radar system and the car's built-in GPS system." The goal is to have the software do everything the average driver already does.

The software, which is titled 'Activating Autopilot' is similar to traditional cruise control functions. However, this advanced piece of technology also boasts autosteering capabilities. The fully equipped car will sense the lane lines and remain on a direct path. As advancements in technology continue to exceed automotive goals, Tesla hopes this software will be ready to hit the roads for consumer purchase in the near future.
