Made from a 3D knitting technique, Benjamin Hubert's 'Tent Chair' is inspired by the construction of a tent. His design studio Layer, designed the chair for Moroso, a contemporary furniture and home design brand. The chair, which was released during Milan design week features one piece of nylon fabric that is stretched over a steel frame. The nylon for this chair was made by 2 million tiny knitted knots, using 50,000 meters of yarn.
This 3D knitting technique allowed for a unique finish, that would have taken years if attempted by hand. The Tent Chair's knitted nylon allows for a cushioning to be integrated into the fabric, making for a comfortable and sturdy design.
The chair acts as a hybrid of high-brow and low-brow design falling somewhere between a unique designer piece, and a basic backyard camping chair.
