The 'Tell Me Dave' Robot Can Listen To and Learn From Humans

Scientists at Cornell University have developed an ingenious responsive robot as part of their 'Tell Me Dave' project.

The Tell Me Dave robot is fitted with a 3D camera. Using special computer vision software, it can be trained to associate objects with their uses. For example, the robot can examine its surroundings and identify objects such as a refrigerator. It knows that a refrigerator can hold food products and beverages and keeps them cold so that they don't spoil. It also has controls that operate it.

So if you ask the robot to get you a beer, it uses the knowledge it gained from scanning its environment to come up with a routine that will enable it to get you a beer. It will open the refrigerator, grab a beer and get it to you.
