Gallery-Roaming Robots

These Moving Telepresence Robots Let Art Lovers Explore Museums Remotely

These museum-roaming telepresence robots allow people to visit museums without having to leave the house. The moving video devices enable art lovers who are physically unable (perhaps because they are bedridden or disabled) to visit to explore remotely. Developed by Suitable Technologies, Beam is also great for business travelers, employees working from home, health professionals, overseas manufacturers and more.

Controlled via desktop computer, the Beam+ and BeamPro telepresence robots have a wide angle camera around eye level with another ground-facing camera that helps the pilot navigate. Right now there is a 3x zoom feature, but the developers hope to increase this to 10x. The screen displays the user's face, adding to the impression they are actually at the gallery.
