The 'GO Box' packages are a line of reusable take-out containers designed to create a waste-free dining experience. As the first reusable container system available to the public, GO Box is targeted at eliminating the need for single-use containers at restaurants.
The San Fransico-based service works by asking participants to sign-up and then request a GO Box the next time they visit a participating vendor. After using the box to transport their meal, the participant then drops the box off at a drop site and receives a token which can be used towards their next GO Box meal. The take-out containers themselves are durable, reusable, recyclable and BPA-free, making them an eco-friendly alternative to traditional single-use take-out packages.
The issue is a major problem in San Francisco, with 48 percent of trash in the Bay Area related to take-out food packaging. If the system proves successful in the case of San Francisco, it may be a sustainable option for restaurants in other cities as well.
