The Japanese toy company Takara Tomy is offering a toy train that blows everything else -- particularly those old-school toy trains you played with as a little kid -- right out of the water. This company is going as far as to offer a fully functional and operational working scale replica of the Superconducting Magnetic levitation or SC Maglev train, which is capable of hitting speeds of up to 603 km/h.
Of course since this is a scale replica, the Takara Tomy offering doesn't travel as fast. But it does actually uses the same original magnetic propulsion system used in the SC Maglev.
This is a great example of a toy that must be loads of fun to play with but also has an educational engineering aspect to it.
