Swiss Cheese Concept Bikes

The Synapse Bike Cuts Pounds While Adding Powers

Sylvain Gerber is an industrial designer who is trimming the fat off of bicycles with his Synapse Bike concept. The Synapse Bike is an ultra-thin bike that features spokeless wheels and a Swiss cheese frame.

The Synapse Bike is fitted with two electric motors on each wheel to help make biking more of a leisurely pursuit and less of a sweat-inducing one. The bike has a unique and lightweight design that should appeal to futurists and competitive bikers alike. I am really digging the look of the Synapse Bike, but I am not sure how I feel about the increasing reliance on electric motors in bike design. Part of the appeal of biking is that it provides an easy cardiovascular workout. That workout virtually disappears if your bike weighs 11 ounces and can power itself.
