Höweler + Yoon Architecture designed 'Swing Time,' an interactive installation that will be on display in Boston's The Lawn on D.
The experimental installation is comprised of 20 circular swings, each of which are lit up. The swings, which are all different sizes, were fashioned from welded polyproylene. The variation in size offers a diversity of uses, from fitness to play.
A micro-controller manages the LED lighting that indicates the activity level, while an internal accelerometer assesses the acceleration force. When they are not in motion, the swings exude a faint white light; it is only when they begin to move that the light deepens from an ethereal white, to a rich purple tone. The responsive element is meant to encourage users to play with one another.
