One of the leading architectural firms in Scandinavia won a competition for the development of a sustainable urban block for an area between Nacka and Stockholm, Sweden. Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects proposed a curious design that "has the ability to reinforce the identity, routes and nodes of the region, as well as expand the connections within the area’s setting."
The sustainable urban block has been designed with a focus on the community. The structural design features flexible components in the shape of squares—their positioning within the block does not only allow for an architecturally sound construction but also offers an inviting space for markets and open-air cafes. This significantly diminishes the inhospitality of gigantic architectural structures and fosters a sustainable urban block that actively reinforces community building and a "three-dimensional fluid experience."
