General Motors (GM) announced a new official expansion of its hands-free drive-assist Super Cruise feature. The Super Cruise function allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel while the advanced driver-assist system maintains a safe speed and a safe lane location.
Currently, the GM Super Cruise feature is available on approximately 200,000 miles of roadway across North America. This is because the feature was previously only accessible on divided highways. However, the feature will soon be available on more than 400,000 miles of road as it expands to include non-divided highways and even some non-highway roads.
Mario Maiorana, the Chief Engineer behind Super Cruise, stated: "Super Cruise is really helping redefine vehicle ownership and it’s really part of our wider path to autonomy at General Motors," showing that the automaker believes the feature is becoming part of GM's core identity.
