Tara Donovan is an artist based in New York whose incredible sculptures using ordinary objects have earned her well-deserved accolades. This particular untitled sculpture, for example, is made entirely of Styrofoam cups and hot glue and was shown at the Ace Gallery in Los Angeles.
This fall, Donovan was honored by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, which selected her as a 2008 Fellow of the Foundation. This distinction comes with a hefty $500,000 "genius" grant from the MacArthur Foundation to support her work. Donovan was one of just 25 recipients, whose ranks included an astrophysicist, a violinist and a physician.
