Amy Andrews and Ethan Van Kooten, environmental studies students at Central College in Iowa, managed to take a derelict storehouse and convert it into a tiny home. The pair showed great resourcefulness to make the conversion happen for only $489.
In order to make the conversion a reality, the students used unwanted lumber, insulation and furniture from local buildings set for demolition. They also acquired some materials free of charge, while four windows were donated.
They say necessity is the mother of invention and that certainly was the case with this tiny home, as Andrews and Van Kooten originally intended to build one from scratch but couldn't raise enough money to do so. This forced them to improvise, and their resulting conversion of a 52-year-old storehouse into a viable tiny home is pretty impressive.
