Italian manufacturer Marazzi launched a new line of stoneware flooring that consists of "six millimeter-thick ceramic tiles." The collection is dubbed 'Grand Carpet' and the inspiration for it has culturally rich and informative roots. Marazzi tapped into "traditional Kolam designs" for the curation of its patterns. To recreate the aforementioned culture-specific technique, Marazzi made use of Indian henna tattoos, rice and colored flour. The designs are printed on the stoneware flooring, bringing the possibility of an endlessly engaging ceramic creation.
Marazzi made its product to be extremely adaptable, allowing for the Kolam-inspired tiles to be installed on walls, as well as both indoors an outdoors. As a result, this fosters an "unbroken visual continuity" between spaces and surfaces.
