The Stone Gate art installation is something out of a sci-fi movie. In fact, it might bring cult tv show 'Stargate' to mind. That is because it takes on an epic circular shape just like the gate featured in the show. Even if it wasn't similar, the Stone Gate leads people to believe that it is a portal to some other world.
Created by Raffaello Galiotto, the Stone Gate explores the balance between mass, weight and gravity. A self-supporting structure held together with nothing more than compression, it is made up of dry-laid hewn Bardiglio nuvolato marble stones, each one weighing 500 kilograms for a total weight of 27,300 kilograms. It was exhibited at the 100% Gravity exhibition in Verona, Italy.

Stone Gate by Raffaello Galiotto Explores Mass, Weight and Gravity
Trend Themes
1. Circular Masonry Installations - Innovative circular masonry structures that explore mass, weight, and gravity through compression techniques.
2. Self-supporting Structures - Structures that are held together through compression, rather than traditional bonding methods.
3. Dry-laid Stone Installations - Installations made up of dry-laid hewn stone, exploring the possibilities of stone structures without the use of adhesives.
Industry Implications
1. Architecture - Disruptive innovation opportunities in the design and construction of unique and self-supporting structures.
2. Art Installation - Innovative installations that challenge traditional methods and explore the possibilities of materials.
3. Stone Industry - Exploring the applications of dry-laid stone installations and compression techniques for a more sustainable and environmentally friendly construction and architecture.
