SPES, a Mauritius-based non-profit organization, has gone ahead and developed an innovative electric boat that is designed to operate on the basis of solar power.
The roof of the 'Folkloric Explorer' electric boat happens to boast some 48 solar panels in the 110-watt category. These solar panels aim to gauge the sun's energy in order to charge six lithium batteries, which juice up to the pair of electric motors that power the boat. This setup enables the boat to enjoy a range of 25 km a single charge when moving at its cruising speed of five km/h.
The creation of this electric boat was spawned by a 2020 oil tanker spill during which around a thousand tons of oil were spilled into the Mauritian sea, and is a laudable innovation that harks to the possibilities of solar-powered ocean navigation.
