This Urban Installation Uses Illuminated Solar-Powered Hexagons

The city of Sandpoint in Idaho has become home to the very first Solar Roadway installation, which was unveiled to great fanfare two years after the company in question first began to introduce its solar-powered installation panels to the world.

This groundbreaking Solar Roadway installation is situated in a town square in the city, and comprises 30 panels that take up a space of 14 square meters. Each panel is capable of pumping out 48 Watts, and also features heat elements that are designed to ward off ice and snow in the cold winter weather.

What's great about this Solar Roadway installation is that it can be programmed to be interactive so that people can take control of the lighting patterns on the installation, making for a wonderful example of engaging and eco-friendly urban tech art.
