This solar oven hopes to improve healthy cooking practices in developing countries. Designed by four students at Cambridge University, the Infinity Bakery uses the power of the sun to bake bread without creating air pollution.
The inexpensive invention aims to replace methods of cooking using wood or coal. In addition to being an expensive and unsustainable process, cooking with these fuels also causes medical problems -- especially when used indoors with improper ventilation.
This solar oven is made out of a 16 foot sun-powered curved dish that channels the energy into a glass-surrounded cooking box that works similarly to a greenhouse. The Infinity Bakery sits on a wooden platform that can also track the sun's position.
