Uganda-based startup Kiira Motors Corporation has launched the 'Kayoola', Africa's first ever solar bus, in a bid to take Uganda's automotive industry forward.
This bus is juiced by a pair of lithium-ion battery banks that power an electric motor that is hooked up to a 2-speed pneumatic shift transmission. The power banks work in automatic interchange mode that enable real-time mobile battery recharging. The bus has a total power capacity of 204 horsepower and makes use of 1,320 Watts of solar power.
The solar bus' body is handcrafted, while the stainless steel battery banks are also constructed in Uganda itself, proving the country's growing automotive expertise.
