The Smartscooter is, as its name suggests, a smart scooter that is the brainchild of Taiwanese firm Gogoro. Gogoro claims that this scooter will in the future be an excellent mode of transportation in smart cities, where it will be able to swap out batteries at vending machines whenever it's in danger of running out of juice.
This scooter cannot be recharged via a typical outlet. Rather, its battery -- which uses Panasonic lithium-ion energy cells, near field communication and 256-bit encryption -- is part of a battery exchange network that Gogoro hopes will be a fixture of futuristic megacities. Smartscooter riders will be able to stop at 'GoStations' to swap out batteries in a process that will take just six seconds.
