Currently on display at New York's Five-11 Gallery, Arslan Sukan's latest series is part smartphone art, part social commentary.
Our dependence on our technological devices is something that we're well aware of. Something that might not cross our minds as frequently, however, is the physical vestiges of our digital obsession, left in the form of fingerprints and smudges all over our touchscreens. Feeling inspired by the dirty, grimy remnants we leave on our devices, Sukan turns his marked screen into a series of starry constellations that speak to our constant smartphone usage.
The exhibit, titled 'When You Were Surfing,' "questions whether our experiences with the digital world, which are mediated through a screen, are any less immediate or complete than our encounters with experiences in physical world."
