The tar coats the timber wood on all four sides used to create the facade, as a preventative measure to protect the wood from damage from large snowfalls.
The chalet is a modern take on a traditional ski cabin with large scale windows, two levels and a geometric shape. The home is located on an elevated slope that often receives a large amount of snow in the winter season. The tar used on the timber is inspired by a Norwegian technique that keeps the wood weather resistant as well as insect-proof by blending the abode into the landscape.
