The Crow's Nest Residence is a beautifully designed ski cabin elevated at 7,080 feet on a mountain of the same name in California's Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. Designed by BCV Architects, the cabin explores how classic architecture reacts with modern elements.
The clients were interested in creating a home that will become a "gathering place for generations." To make this dream a reality, the architects focused on creating ambient social spaces perfect for gathering and entertaining large groups of people. At the same time, the client's privacy was protected by orienting the house towards the uphill forest.
Inside, a double-height living room acts as the central hub of the home. The room, which is anchored by the chimney mass, allows for beautiful views of the surrounding forest. That view is framed by the interior log columns that support the home's cantilevered roof. The room is flanked by a dining room and library, and a cantilevered deck extends from this floor, continuing opportunity for interaction.
