With carefully curated shirt experiments, COMME des GARÇONS made its second impression at Paris Fashion Week with its Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The Japanese label chose to undertake a strongly eerie aesthetic. With an emphasis on shirt experimentation, COMME des GARÇONS chose to explore the role of the garment within the narrative of its own aesthetic, as well as in the agency in the medium of presentation.
As a result, the core of the COMME des GARÇONS Spring/Summer 2019 collection is the perception of the shirt as a fashionable object. From heavily mispatterned tops and doll-collared tees to dress-like button-up shirts with a central graphic, perhaps one of the most striking experiments can be seen on the models who wore unconventional shirt masks on their heads as they presented in front of the audience.
