In her shepherd photography series, French photographer Clementine Scheidermann takes pictures of her brother's lonely life as a shepherd in the wilderness. The project began in 2010 and continues as Clementine documents her visits with Nicolas, which occur two or three times a year. 'Le Grand Silence' has seen Nicolas grow from an angry adolescent of 17 years to a "mellowed out" young man as he lives out of a caravan camper and tends his flock of sheep.
The shepherd photography series takes place in southern France, where the subject lives in the mountains with his two dogs. Nicolas left home in Paris without any kind of agricultural background, according to his sister. Throughout the year the siblings keep in touch via email and text.
