Megalithic '1933' Tower

As reported previously, China is undergoing an architectural renaissance with new megalithic structures. In addition to this trend, they are having a resurgence of resurrecting industrial buildings as witnessed in other cities, such as the Meat Packing District in New York and Les Halles in Paris.

The most recent project to be subjected to a transforming facelift is the 1933, once an abattoir, located in the historic Hongkou District.

Costing RMB100 million, the former art deco building has already attracted a number of high profile organizations who will base their operations at 1933, such as Apple and American Apparel.

The vision of 1933 is the creation of a destination hub for all aspects of the creative world, encompassing design, fashionable boutiques and restaurants, art exhibitions and galleries.

"That can only bode well for this historic industrial town, as it seeks to transform itself into a cultural and intellectual epicenter."
