The Shams Power Company UAE solar power space is officially the largest of its kind in the world. Titled Shams 1, the Abu Dhabi location will churn out 100 MW, powering up to 20,000 homes.
This clean energy space is set to reduce 175,000 tons of C02 per year. The plant comes at the tail end of two years spent in construction, an endeavor that cost over $600 million.
While Shams 1 is the biggest solar facility built thus far, two companies based in California have unveiled plans to erect solar towers that will emit 500 MW, providing enough power for approximately 200,000 homes. Until then however the Shams Power Company will wield its considerable influence in the green energy industry.
