Japanese retailer Muji has partnered with JD's supermarket brand Seven Fresh to launch a 400sqm fresh food complex in Shanghai. The new move marks Muji's first foray into the food industry and second collaboration with Seven Fresh.
Up until now, Muji has focused on selling home goods, clothes, and furniture. The newly launched food market will offer an expanded selection of food items, including ramen, frozen foods, ice cream, oatmeal, and pizza, which will be sold alongside garments belonging to Muji's fashion labels, Muji Labo and Muji Walker.
In addition, Muji will participate in Seven Fresh's unique omnichannel retail structure, which offers shoppers a combination of online and offline services with the option for ultra-fast online order delivery. The new food complex points to a growing partnership between Muji and JD, who had already joined forces last year to launch MUJIcom.
