Fluidly Curvaceous Designs

The Serpentine Sackler Gallery Will Take Your Breath Away

Zaha Hadid’s gorgeous design for the Serpentine Sackler Gallery unveiled September 28th 2013 at a launch. The design features a restaurant with a fabric roof. Hadid explains, "The idea here was to use a new material – a tensile structure – and to look at domes and a shell structure to achieve a lightweight contemporary project." The end result is a fluid architectural form that is supported by several columns.

The design is a very modern addition to a historical building, essentially fusing together traditional and contemporary elements of design. The curvaceous structure manages to be light and airy. Hadid states on the site, "I think we have achieved the acuity of space and structure, of sculptural elegance, lightness and transparency."
