Coast Autonomous develops a self-driving shuttle that debuted on Broadway in New York. The people-packed location is specifically picked to showcase the precision and effectiveness of the autonomous vehicle, as well as communicate the company's confidence in its technology.
The self-driving shuttle is essentially "a bi-directional van" and has no space for a driver. The interior boasts seating in a ring with "built-in screens for displaying information to passengers." Coast Autonomous creates the autonomous P-1 shuttle to "run quietly and smoothly" at low speeds, capable to navigate environments with mixed traffic. The ground speed fluctuates between 10 and 15 miles per hour. Naturally, the self-driving shuttle is able to navigate with reference to GPS coordinates and is "aware" of nearby objects via LIDAR sensors.
