A mere fallen log performs well as a multi-person seating system. With the production of the Screw It Bench, the designer took the opportunity to create something to bridge function and form with a product this is both practical and a piece of art.
Twelve broad blocks of wood have been cut into parallelograms and given a pair of opposite beveled edges. Each segment is fastened to another with hardwood joints, forming the helix-like curling configuration of a pulled coil. The finished product can accommodate two seated people on the flat horizontal tops.
A natural pale and a dark-stained version of the Screw It Bench have been developed by Neulhae Cho. You can twist them together to make a sturdy and continuous surface to invite more sitters to have a rest.
