Smart Pilot Safety Goggles

The SAVED Goggles Aid Pilots in Smoky and Dangerous Conditions

FedEx and the Osterhout Design Group recently unveiled the SAVED goggles, which are set to support pilot safety in smoky situations. The SAVED goggles, which stands for Smoke Assured Vision Enhanced Display, are a pair of hybrid smart glasses and an oxygen mask system that gives the user data from the aircraft's HUD and external cameras to aid in emergency landings.

Built around the threat of smoke, the SAVED goggles address the FAA notes that indicate at least one smoke-related landing per day. The entire system is small, light and easy to install, according to Osterhout, which greatly differs from current smart goggle setups. Not surprisingly, FedEx will be integrating this system into its training and real-world flights. The use of the system on courier planes will not only ensure pilot safety but will also assure that damage to packages and planes will be kept to a minimum.
