Nvidia has announced the newest iteration of its RTX 3080 high-end graphics processing unit (GPU). This new-and-improved RTX 3080 features 12GB of VRAM, which is an increase of 2GB over the 2020 model's 10gb. The 2022 version of the 3080 also features a few hundred more CUDA cores than its predecessor, bringing the total up to 8,960.
One of the largest drawbacks to the 2020 version of the RTX 3080 was its 10GB VRAM that caused many consumers to opt for the 3080 TI or RX 6900XT for a greater quantity of VRAM. The 3080 12GB model will consumer a similar amount of power to the original 3080, meaning consumers interested in this new upgrade will not have to swap out their power supply unit (PSU).
The starting price for the RTX 3080 12GB model will be set individually based on the different third-party manufacturers, such as EVGA or Zotac, though the price will likely be just over $1,000.
