A group of automotive engineers and innovators working out of Spain have come up with an extraordinarily inventive and potentially life-saving rollover protection mechanism, dubbed Air-Rops, that is designed to make it easier to protect people riding ATVs as well as tractors, lawnmowers and other agricultural vehicles in the event of a vehicle rolling over.
The Air-Rops system is essentially an automated rollover protection system that is deployed in the event of a roll being detected. The system relies heavily on an accelerometer, gyroscope and inclinometer to detect what is dubbed an 'irreversible overturn situation'. Once the vehicle has been assessed at reaching that point, the system deploys a hoop to create a massive safety zone in a matter of only 150 milliseconds.
This system is a great example of high-tech automation's validity and utility in the field of automotive protection and safety.
