Artist Baptiste Debombourg's roller coaster chair sculpture called 'Stellar' takes an interesting perspective towards the concept of outdoor patio seating.
Located in the Place du Bouffay public square in Nantes, France, this brightly colored aerial sculpture was made using 300 meters of steel tubing, 1,200 chairs in six different colors and took over 11 months to construct. The inspiration for the chair roller coaster concept itself came from a piece of artwork by Robert Delaunay made for the 1937 Paris World's fair, as well as the seating from the various outdoor restaurants and cafes that surround the area.
With each individual chair made to represent a single person, the chair roller coaster sculpture thoughtfully plays with the idea of our own singular presence, and its relationship within both the volume and the height of the surrounding atmosphere.
