Taking a look at designer Rod Hourani’s Spring 2010 collection, which was a considerable showcase of men in heels, one gets an awkward feeling that fashion is never going to revert back to where it used to be... when traditional gender lines actually existed.
The men wore the same ankle boots that the women wore, which were a product of Hourani’s own desire to have man-friendly heels that didn’t resemble cowboy boots. And while there wasn’t much of a surprise factor in Rod Hourani’s men-in-heels display (we’ve seen our fair share of man girdles, meggings, and manties!), the gender-bending collection which brought to mind futuristic warriors did manage to impart a slick sharpness that even male models stomping the catwalk in chunky heeled boots couldn’t take away.
I’m just wondering what we should call these man heels. Meels?
