Robotic attendants are replacing customer service representatives of the human variety in all sorts of retail settings, but this robot priest is a different beast altogether. The BlessU-2 experiment is part of an interactive installation at the Protestant Church of Hesse and Nassau located in Wittenberg, Germany. The humanistic robot was made to bless members of the public at the exhibition.
The robot priest interacts with people mostly through a screen, where people can pick a language, choose a male or female voice and whether they would prefer blessings of an encouraging or renewing variety. Designed and engineered by Alexander Wiedekind- Klein, the robotic creation is a truly unusual mix of religion and artificial intelligence.
