In an interview with The Drive, Rivian company chief R.J. Scaringe stated that "Rivian-to-Rivian" charging will be available in the future for Rivian electric trucks. This means that drivers who are running low on battery life can take a charge from another Rivian vehicle in order to get their car to a charge station. Also stated in the interview was the creation of auxiliary battery packs that had been patented in the past. With the new battery packs, drivers could convert cargo space into extra power sources, increasing the truck's range beyond 400- miles.
However, the company chief also states that the Rivian electric trucks are constrained by limitations, which include battery technology, aerodynamics as well as charging inefficiencies. The new Rivian model R1T will be released in 2020.
