ALCH is a new menswear line that is made entirely from repurposed materials. While there are a number of clothing lines that use recycled materials to make new garments, these companies primarily use old textiles and scrap fabric. ALCH sets itself apart by using industrial materials to produce stylish clothing, shoes and accessories.
The Melbourne-based company creates chic upcycled pieces out of repuposed materials such as bubble wrap, packing peanuts and silica gel pouches. As ALCH designer Alexandra Hackett explains, the collection is "based on the exploration of found materials and the subversion of the notion of function and practicality." The collection is entirely made by hand and consists of everything from hoodies to sneakers. Some of the most innovative pieces include a t-shirt made from an old sun shade and a bomber jacket that is made from a recycled windshield protector.
The unique collection demonstrates that sustainable designers are becoming increasingly imaginative in the kinds of materials they are using to make their clothing.
