This Truck Uses Efficient Braking to Provide Expanded Range

Tevva, an electric truck manufacturer based in the U.K., has teamed up with Germany-based automotive supplier ZF to enable its latest electric truck with an advanced regenerative braking system that helps to extend the vehicle's range whilst also improving safety.

The 'TEV75' electric truck makes use of ZF's braking system to cause the brake input to be separated into a combination of conventional friction-based braking and electrically engaged regenerative braking. This enables greater responsiveness, improved safety and reduced damage to braking systems over a period of time.

Uzair Jilani, lead drive and brake systems engineer over at Tevva, explained that when the brake pedal is engaged, much of the braking is actually handled by the regenerative mechanism, meaning that the drive system helps to slow the vehicle. "The conventional braking system is still needed to bring the truck to a complete stop, but this double layer of safety is an excellent aid to more efficient driving," Jilani noted, adding that it also means that "the hardware undergoes less strain to extend the braking system's life in the long run."

This braking system is part of what enables this electric truck to boast a range of 227 km.
