Sculptural Refugee Shelters

This Refugee Shelter Design Focuses on Flexibility and Airflow

This refugee shelter design has been designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) for the Education Above All Foundation as a tent-like structure for supporting the needs of displaced students. The structures follow the signature style of ZHA buildings with a curvaceous form that prioritizes natural light within the space along with natural ventilation. The structures are anchored to concrete foundations, and boast framework made of steel and fabric to maximize their sturdiness.

The refugee shelter design is constructed with a weatherproof form that can be easily moved, joined together with additional units to make a larger structure or reassembled at another location. The structures can also be recycled when no longer required. The shelters have been deployed for use in Pakistan and Turkey with a further 24 shelters expected to be rolled out in the near-future.
