This architecture firm uses innovative design techniques to create this environmentally conscious home.
'The Sawmill House' was designed by 'Archier' in Victoria, Australia in the small town of Yackandandah. The goal of the design was to engage the environment, while making quality use of the space for the family of three it is being created for. The approach moved away from conventional methods and looked into cost-effective alternatives.
In an environmentally sound effort, the firm used material from the thousands of tons of concrete that are wasted each year and recycled 270 one-ton blocks to create the outer perimeter of the home. Formerly a lumber mill as the name would suggest, the interior uses stained wood and because of its position on a valley, it features natural ventilation flows with selective glass use for environmental coverage.

Trend Themes
1. Eco-friendly Architecture - There is an opportunity for architecture firms to create environmentally conscious homes using innovation in design and sustainable materials such as recycled concrete.
2. Circular Construction - Circular construction can be achieved through recycling building materials, reducing waste and creating eco-friendly homes that are built to last longer and have a lower impact on the environment.
3. Alternative Building Methods - Exploring alternative building methods like using recycled concrete blocks as an alternative to conventional methods can reduce the impact of new construction projects on the environment.
Industry Implications
1. Construction - The construction industry can adopt sustainable practices by exploring alternative methods of building that can reduce carbon footprint and waste, through sourcing sustainable materials and recycling building materials.
2. Architectural Design - The architectural industry can embrace eco-friendly design practices by incorporating sustainable materials and techniques and innovative design methods in their projects, thereby reducing the building's environmental impact.
3. Recycling - Recycling companies have an opportunity to provide sustainable materials to the construction industry, by exploring ways to repurpose waste materials like concrete and providing them to builders as alternatives to conventional building materials.
