Canada's largest record store has just announced it now has a Phono-Mat—a randomized record vending machine—in its Toronto location. The Phono-Mat presents a unique in-store experience for record lovers, nostalgia-seekers, and "rabid record hunters." One may simply ask for a token at the front desk and select an option of either a seven-inch or a 12-inch record. Not knowing which record will tumble down is part of the appeal. The record vending machine presents new pathways for discovering new sounds and different artists.
The Phono-Mat was designed in Toronto by Craig Small who is also the creator of the coin-operated book dispenser, the Biblio-Mat. The book machine is available at another key Toronto business—the Monkey's Paw on Bloor Street West.
