RCS messaging capabilities are beginning to be available on Google Messages in the UK and France. Users who wish to use new capabilities will have to set Google Messages as their default messaging app. RCS messaging allows users more functionality than standard SMS messages, things like easy file sharing and video calls make RCS an enhanced platform.
The new RCS messaging will be compatible with already in place carriers, and will be fully released throughout the year. The messaging service can also be accessed on users desktop, using a browser client. Desktop messaging will have the same functions, where users can send GIFs, videos, as well as audio messages. However apk files are only able to be seen on mobile RCS.
