Education is a long hard road with many rewards but often just as many obstacles. The Rawls College Innovation Pavilion will be built in the heart of the Texas Tech Business Administration school with the aim to inspire the university's students.
Unfamiliar sights and experiences can broaden the mind, so Volkan Alkanoglu and Marc Fornes of Theverymany plan to place this abstract three-sided sculpture in a courtyard surrounded by the walls of Spanish Renaissance Architecture.
The unique contemporary installation guides foot traffic from the building's entrance axes beneath the translucent joining canopy and through one of the three tunnel-like masses. Each is clad in wood and covered in a perforated shade. Together, the three islands of the Rawls College Innovation Pavilion symbolize education, communication and innovation, while the vaguely T-like shape references the institution's name.
