Although Europe is often celebrated for its encouragement of bicycles, German city of Wiesbaden is considered to be the least bike-friendly in the whole country; enter Radwende by Scholz & Volkmer, a local creative agency. It is a robot that tracks the routes of cyclists on city maps in order to show exactly where bike lanes need to be added.
Created in collaboration with artists Manfred Kraft and Tom Kresin, Radwende by Scholz & Volkmer is currently on exhibit as an art installation at the Museum Wiesbaden. Working with an accompanying app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices, it tracks real-life cyclists. Psfk reports, "The prints that are created by the robot are for sale, starting at 150 Euros and the price becomes 1 Euro cheaper for every kilometer that the accompanying app measures that day. It’s sort of an incentive to get more people on bikes."
