Refined Ribcage Risers

Inspired by the Human Body, R I B S Steps Rework Homes' Interior Anatomy

Tecnicaibrida says something quite poetic with regards to its elegant R I B S Steps; the building's walls are viewed as the backbone of the structure, so the staircase becomes the ribcage.

As a study of the natural beauty and rhythm of the skeletal structure, the collaboration between Alan Zirpoli and Gabriele Mariotti resulted in the creation of striking sculptural treads. They're made of long pieces of narrow metal that are carefully folded in half to form U-shapes. The resultant pair of spaced panels becomes two generous surfaces for ascending part of the way between one floor and another.

About eight R I B S Steps installed in a slanting succession are sufficient to bridge the elevation between one level of a house and another. They cantilever gracefully from the wall, remain open and riser-free and are best appreciated aesthetically with no handrail.
