Skype Qik is a new video messaging app and service that lets users exchange short videos as well as create and store five-second GIFs. It aims to compete with the popular Snapchat service, but has unique advantages of its own.
For one, Qik allows users to send longer videos -- up to 42 seconds. Qik clips are also not deleted as soon as they have been viewed, but rather can be accessed for two weeks. Another advantage is that users can delete a video from a conversation even after it has been shared with another user.
Qik is available as a free app for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices. Android and Windows Phone users have the ability to block certain contacts, while iOS doesn't offer this functionality just yet.
